What is this?
No, still no idea
I realised the other day that if I was going to use this Substack for anything, I could probably do TV reviews on it and actually try and make it something.
There’s this feeling I get when I finish watching a TV series that it’s not really over because I haven’t reviewed it. A decade of Letterboxd has ruined me. I’m into this routine, good or bad, where something isn’t finished until I’ve written about it. Even if it’s just a sentence or a quick joke review.
I finished watching Line of Duty last week and yesterday I caught myself thinking, “Mother of god, I’ve got time for a Line of Duty”. Except I’d finished it. It’s because I didn’t review it. All I can really do with a TV series is this.
But do I really want a second place to write in and have that dedicated to reviewing as well? The whole point of me opening this in the first place is that I could use it to talk about ‘other stuff’. The problem with leading a life so generally uneventful is that this could be left as a somewhat sporadically updated venture. I guess I’ll just look for a TV version of Letterboxd, then.
Funny how my brain has been trained that way, though. I wonder what would happen if I gave up reviewing for a month. If I’d actually watch nearly as many films or find something else to fill my time with. Like listening to music. I hear they’ve made some in the last 15 years or so since I stopped listening to the radio, so perhaps I could catch up on that. Are King Biscuit Time still going?
